Luc Bagdhassarian allume le Victoria Hall

Le fondateur du l’Orchestra Symphonique Riviera et chef d'orchestre Luc Bagdhassarian s’est produit ce samedi avec ledit orchestre au Victoria Hall, accompagné du Chœur Riviera Symphonique, du Chœur A Capella d’Yverdon et des solistes Karine Mkrtchyan, soprano, Carine Séchaye, mezzo-soprano, Nan Wei, ténor, et Jérémie Brocard, basse, a réinterprété la 9ème symphonie de Ludwig van Beethoven. Un moment extraordinaire de solennité au cœur de Genève.

Un ami m’a écrit en ce début d’année au sujet de cette symphonie:

In 1785 a German poet, Friedrich Schiller, wrote an ode "An die Freude" which - in the official English translation - begins as follows: "Joy, beautiful spark of divinity, Daughter of Elysium" .

Elysium or "The Elysian Fields" ("Elysée" in French) is a Greek conception of afterlife, located on the edge of the earth, to which the heroic, the righteous and those chosen by the gods would spend their time happily, indulging in whatever employment they had practised  in life. The ode of course is best known for its musical setting by Ludwig van Beethoven in the final movement of his Ninth choral symphony, completed  in 1824.
